O Centro de Referência em Leishmaniose do Baixo Sul da Bahia (1986 – 2017): uma genealogia da Geografia Médica Brasileira

Abstract

The Reference Center on Leishmaniasis of Baixo Sul da Bahia, founded in 1986, is currently a unit of the Unified Health System (SUS) in partnership with the Federal University of Bahia and the Association of the Union of Residents of the Village of Corte de Pedra in the municipality of President Tancredo Neves. Therefore, the objective of this work is to present a genealogy of Medical Geography from the Reference Center on Leishmaniasis of Baixo Sul da Bahia from 1986 to 2017. This research consists of steps: documental historical research, interview, and theoretical references. Historical research based on the analysis of documents from the Reference Center for Leishmaniasis and theoretical references on Medical Geography, from the point of view of Foucault's genealogy. In the documentary survey, the founding minutes of the Union of Residents of the Corte de Pedra District and the Statute of the Reference Center were identified. The interviews showed the importance of the CRL and its relationship with Brazilian Medical Geography, based on studies initiated by medical researchers at the University of Brasília (UnB) in 1983. These professionals came to explore the endemic area of Tegumentary Leishmaniasis around the District of Corte de Pedra to research their course conclusion works (dissertation and thesis), and who later guided the community and effectively participated in the movement and organization of the association for the implementation of the CRL that made it possible to serve the population affected by Leishmaniasis; the time when the SUS didn't even exist and people clamored for comprehensive health care. Concluding then that the researches in Brazilian Medical Geography in the locality of Corte de Pedra allowed to understand genealogically why the implantation of the CRL in 1986.
