Resumo:
This article presents the characteristics, theoretical basis, objectives, methodology and some re-sults of the extension project “Education, critical theories and emancipatory processes”, develo-ped at the Federal University of Bahia between 2015 and 2021, in the city of Salvador. The article shows how the project established, together with social agents, the relationships between the human sciences and popular education; as well as showing the value of the human sciences for social movements, especially in this moment of struggle against fascist hegemony. The article tries to show the urgency of developing more complex attitudes, reflections and practices with more vigor, as unidirectional and simplistic confrontations have been absorbed by the dominant sys-tem, both in neoliberal and fascist governments. The project was theoretically inspired by critical humanism, as a broad approach rather than a specific theory. Within this general approach, the main theoretical-methodological reference used in this extension project was the Latin American theories of liberation. As qualitative results, the article presents the reflections, developed throu-ghout the project,’ on the concepts of knowledge, reality, spirituality and participatory democracy.
