Dois lados da mesma viagem: entre a lembrança e o esquecimento da Estrada de Ferro Bahia e Minas

Abstract

Esta dissertação buscou compreender o impacto da Estrada de Ferro Bahia e Minas na vida das pessoas afetadas por sua existência. Para isso consideramos as narrativas colhidas segundo a metodologia da história oral proposta por Paul Thompson (1992) e um conjunto de fotografias que serão interpretadas à luz da perspectiva de Boris Kossoy (1999; 2001). A presente pesquisa é fruto, portanto, de um interesse pela memória coletiva dessa ferrovia, pensada sob o ponto de vista interdisciplinar sobre a cultura. Aqui, nosso interesse foi de preservar a densidade dos documentos disponíveis e principalmente a poética dos eventos narrados que, por vezes, acionam um mundo distante, mas que se revive sob outra intensidade no presente. Trata-se, neste sentido, da perseguição de um objetivo em escala microssociológica sobre um período histórico marcado por muitas contradições e conflitos. Dentre as conclusões possíveis, destacamos o caráter mestiço, entre o moderno e o tradicional, na qual se forma a cultura ferroviária no contexto de estudo.

This dissertation sought to understand the impact of the Bahia and Minas Railroad on the lives of people affected by its existence. For this we consider the narratives collected according to the methodology of oral history proposed by Paul Thompson (1992) and a set of photographs that will be interpreted in the light of the perspective of Boris Kossoy (1999, 2001). The present research is therefore the result of an interest in the collective memory of this railway, thought from an interdisciplinary point of view on culture. Here our interest was to preserve the density of the available documents and especially the poetics of the narrated events that sometimes trigger a distant world, but which is revived under another intensity in the present. In this sense, it is a question of the pursuit of an objective on a micro-sociological scale over a historical period marked by many contradictions and conflicts. Among the possible conclusions, we highlight the mestizo character, between the modern and the traditional, in which the train culture is formed in the study context.
