As mãos que escrevem para o Marquês de Pombal: uma busca pela autoria material do Códice 132

Abstract

Doctoral Thesis on Language and Culture. Analyzes the authorship of handwritten documents and verifies the attribution of the authorship of the Códice 132 do Mosteiro de São Bento da Bahia to the Marquis of Pombal. Work in seven sections, introduces the research, discusses the biographical character of Códice 132, describes the document as demonstrates the method for characterization of writing applying it to the referred manuscript, introduces the corpus and the criteria for its selection, consecutively identifies and characterizes the handwritings found in the corpus and introduces the exclusion criteria and the given treatment. The comparative analysis of the handwritings corresponds to the las section, which is followed by the conclusion which appraises the results. A documentary research was carried out in order to identify handwritten documents whose intellectual authorship is attributed to the Marquis, but whose writing was made by someone else as delegated writing. Two volumes belonging to the Pombaline Collection of the National Library of Portugal were selected as corpus and the different handwritings of each document in both volumes were identified and described. Based on such description it was possible to compare the writings with paleographical fundamentals and verify the attribution of the authorship of the document to the Marquis of Pombal.
