Cortázar e seus múltiplos: caminhos de um escritor contemporâneo

Abstract

This dissertation is a bibliographic study about the Argentine Julio Florencio Cortázar (1914- 1984), intellectual, fiction writer, translator, teacher, critic and theorist of literature, recognized worldwide from the 1960s on. Known short story writer of magical realism – current literature that mixes reality and the magical universe –, Cortázar has a vast production that encompasses critical texts, letters, novels and manifestos. This research focuses in the sizing of Cortázar as a multiple intellectual, revisiting the paths through he traversed throughout his career as a writer. I tried here to show that the themes posed by Cortázar, a subject of the 20th century, remain present in the contemporaneity. This study aims to investigate the multiplicity of the author through two novels of his authorship: Diário de Andrés Fava (1950) and O Livro de Manuel (1973), which, even with an interval of 23 years of publication from one to another, have as narrator-character a Latin man named Andrés Fava. From a careful reading and the literary analysis of the works, I tried to understand, through the similarities between the narratives, how the plurality of the subject manifests itself in his fictional production. To that end, they were still considering the political-social and metaphysical commitments of Cortázar materialized in his namesake characters, as well as some biographical events that make up the author's narratives and life.
