Negros & educação: por uma nova história.

Abstract

O presente estudo traz um levantamento histórico sobre o acesso dos negros à educação formal, desde o inicio do século XIX, para justificar a importância da promulgação e implementação da Lei 10.639/2003. Em linhas gerais, busca-se, através da produção teórica,verificar a trajetória do povo negro por uma educação democrática, que inclua a identidade e a cultura negra na escola, buscando assim uma nova história. Ciente de que a educação é um instrumento de ascensão social, enfatiza-se a participação da escola nesse processo de inclusão/exclusão educacional do negro, permeado por discriminação, preconceito e invisibilidade, porém com perspectivas de superação desse contexto. Ressalta-se também a contribuição e participação da população negra para a nossa cultura.

ABSTRACT This study provides a historical survey about the access of Afro-brazilians to formal education since the beginning of the 19th Century, to justify the importance of the promulgation and implementation of the law 10.639/2003. It aims at verifying, through the theoretical production, the trajectory of the Afro-Brazilians for a democratic education, which includes the African culture and identity in the school, searching then a new history. Aware that education is a tool of social ascension, it emphasizes the participation of the school in that Afro-Brazilians’ educational inlusion/exclusion process, which is permeated by discrimination, prejudice and invisibility, but with perspectives of overcoming that context. It also highlights the contribuition and participation of the Afro-Brazilians to our culture.
