Resumo:
The work investigates the possible intersections, approximations and tensions between two
artistic expressions that seek modernity while considering memory, tradition and the search
for their cultural identity as their starting point. Both Afro dance and Butoh have many
similarities. Through research, the concepts of axé (in Afro dance) and ki (in Butoh) are
juxtaposed to perceive possible approximations and separations, considering them as energies
that drive movement. At the same time, the two cultures and their relationships with the body
are compared. The work considers almost twenty years of the author's experiences in
individual and collective practices, relating to Afro dances and Butoh. The proposal is based
on the concepts of “encruzilhada” (Rufino, 2019) and “terreirização” (Simas, Rufino, 2018),
in addition to other authors and concepts, Brazilian and/or Japanese. The aim is to verify the
possibility of choreographic creation from a third way resulting from the crossing between the
two dances, afro-butô.
