Abstract:
Slave labor, either subjecting the human being to forced work or to exhausting daily tasks, degrading conditions of work, or restricting the worker’s locomotion because of indebtedness has been actually found in several states of the country. The objective of this paper is to expose and to publish the occurrence of such situations, especially in the state of Bahia. For the elaboration of this paper, bibliographical revision and secondary data available at government and no government organs. were used. The results showed that, from 2003 to 2009, 2.522 workers, living under sub-human work conditions, were rescued by the Special Group of Movable Surveillance (GEFM) in the state of Bahia, and most of the actions occurred in the West of the State, mainly in the municipal district of São Desidério. One realized that, in the specifi c case of slave labor, that it is necessary greater surveillance and punishment for the employer. But it is also necessary to guarantee decent work conditions, mainly in the rural areas, where the cases of slave work are more frequent.. Although the state of Bahia is undertaking actions in the several dimensions of work, by the Agenda Bahia of the Decent Work, there is a lot to be done as far as guaranteeing conditions of decent work is concerned.
