“Uma Igreja de luta, resistência e fé!”: a igreja Batista Nazareth (Salvador:Ba, 1974-1990)

Abstract

Esse trabalho não tem a intensão de ser um memorial de uma instituição, ele busca demonstrar através da história da formação da Igreja Batista Nazareth como o movimento ecumênico em Salvador foi encarado por alguns grupos evangélicos e como esse movimento reagiu diante dos conflitos sócio/políticos e econômicos. A luta contra a ditadura, o enfrentamento ao preconceito e as mais diversas intolerâncias (racial, sexual, social, etc.) foram algumas das bandeiras dessa igreja desde a sua organização. O esforço para o combate contra o ecumenismo aponta para o quão importante ele é em nossa sociedade. A Igreja Batista Nazareth se impôs diante das instituições Batistas de grande prestigio, para não abrir mão de suas crenças e nem do direito de ser uma Igreja Batista, nos deixando um exemplo de como viver sua fé sem se distanciar das aflições da sociedade.

This study is not meant to be a memorial of an institution, instead, it aims to demonstrate through the history formation of the Baptist Church of Nazareth in Salvador, how the ecumenic movement, in this city, reacted in relation to the social, political and economical conflicts and how it was seen by some evangelical groups. The fight against dictatorship, prejudice and various types of intolerances, such as: racial, sexual, social, among others, were some of the vindication of the church since its organization. This effort to combat ecumenism shows how important it is to our society. The Baptism Church of Nazareth carried its points among other Baptist institutions of high prestige, so it could not giving up its beliefs, neither its right to be a Baptist Church, providing us with an example of how we can reinforce our faith without being away from the society troubles.
