justificar a perseguição a determinadas práticas.
do Candomblé, estiveram muito próximas, dando origem a experiências diversas. Essas
The present work has as aims to analyze the repression to spiritists and candomblecistas on the republican Salvador understanding that these actions that mobilized many agents – policies, jurists, rulers, doctors, journalists, lawyers – in the name of the modernization and civilization of costumes, had the racial tensions and socioeconomic of the time its main foundation. Entering the context of Salvador of the years 1920 and 1930 and taking as starting point the press coverage to different cases of prosecution to candomblecistas and spiritists, the research aims to understand how effectuated the police actions and the rulers against the terraces and spiritists centers, what criteria and/or categories were employed to justify the pursuit of certain practices. Thus, it becomes crucial to understand how doctors, lawyers, jurists and the press get involved in the discussions surrounding of the criminalization of these beliefs and the categories developed by them to justify or not the repression, seizing the divergences of opinions that existed. Even in the case of different religions check that, in everyday life, certain spiritualists practices and of Candomble, were very close, giving rise to various experiences. These approaches have not gone unnoticed of the repressive agents, which have developed classificatories categories and specifics libelous to deal with these situations. It is essential, therefore, to investigate the construction of the categories “false” and “low” Spiritism in opposition to “true” and “tall” Spiritism. They have become essential, in that context of attempts to control of the different practices of workers, mainly because it allowed direct combating to experiences of blacks and poor. In light of this, the aim of this work is to understand which the strategies used by candomblecistas and spiritualists to face the persecution and the criminalization processes and, at the same time, as supporters of these beliefs will resort to different alternatives which inclued the construction of identities that were legitimized and recognized socially. In the meantime, it is essential to understand the role of the notions of “tradition” and “charity” while categories legitimating of some religious practices over others and in how they became central to the people of saint and the spiritualists in seeking to validate their beliefs. |
