The aim of this research is to verify the effect of the urban population size of the municipalities of the state of Bahia on the attraction of the the same state migrants, by levels of qualification. A review of the literature shows that more skilled people who migrate tend to move to larger cities. Thus, the start is with an analytical model in New Economic Geography, in which specific characteristics of the more dynamic regions tend to attract greater flows of transactions or people. The probability of the more and less qualified migrants is attracted to the municipalities according to the size of the urban population was verified. The methodology was based on the estimation of Probit and Logit models, using a cross-section database, with data on migration and socioeconomic characteristics of the state of Bahia municipalities, for the year 2010. The results showed that the most qualified migrants are concentrated in the largest cities, they migrate to municipalities with higher costs of living, as well as tend to seek out municipalities with a higher concentration of qualified people |
