Desvendando os determinantes da exclusão social dos jovens no meio urbano brasileiro: uma investigação sobre a condição Nem-Nem com enfoque nas disparidades por sexo

Abstract

The aim of this article was to analyze the determinants of the youth not in employment, education or training (NEET) by gender in urban areas of Brazil. The Multilevel Logit Model was applied for the year 2010, with two hierarchical levels: individual (level 1) and municipal (level 2). In this case, the use of this methodology is justified by the fact that the research sought to highlight the effects of the social context in which these young people are inserted. The results show that the NEET incidence is associated with municipalities with a low human development index, with a larger economically active unemployed population. Furthermore, it is higher among people with no religious affiliation and black women. Another important point is that the NEET occurrence in households increases the probability of other young people presenting the same behavior. Finally, having a brother in the household and living with the mother decreases the likelihood of being NEET along with the education of the individual and the reference person in the household.
