Canudos: uma guerra no sertão... muitas mulheres...

Abstract

The main objective of the research “Canudos: A War in the Backlands... Many Women” is to analyze the female presence in the Canudos War, beyond the Euclidean view, highlighting their contributions to the formation of the settlement through their knowledge and activities. After 130 years of the massacre that occurred in the northeastern backlands, the History of Canudos still fascinates many historians. However, there are still aspects that have been little explored, such as the theme proposed here. In this sense, the research in archives, digital sources, microfilms, newspapers, literature and bibliography aims to broaden the understanding of the events that occurred there, especially those related to the History of the Women of Belo Monte, women who participated in and resisted the massacre, but who were made invisible, excluded and silenced in this history of suffering, pain and death. It is important for us to look at the Counselor's entourage in order to understand the relationship between women and religion and the church; with the teachings preached by the blessed before and after the war and with the practices. These practices were present in life within Belo Monte, however, as we will have the opportunity to demonstrate, they were rejected by the church, becoming a reason for death for many Conselheirista women.
