Entre literatura, histórias e “estórias”, a ora(li)tura: Ualalapi (1987), de Ungulani Ba Ka Khosa

Abstract

The emergence of the Mozambican literature is directly linked to the emergence of newspapers and periodicals both in the colonial period but also during the post- independence. The 1980´s of the 20th century was regarded by some scholars of this literature, one of the most productive, not only by the emergence of new groups as well as the institutionalization of this literature. Ungulani Ba Ka Khosa is one of the writers that arises during this period and publishes, in 1987, the book Ualalapi. The current study aims to examine the ways in which the author has built and rebuilt the historical figure of Ngungunhane, last emperor of the kingdom of Gaza, as well as the historical events swinging between the historiography and literature. Aims also to understand the ways in which the author composes the narratives by adding elements of storytelling history characteristic of African oral tradition.
