ToPônimos do Litoral Norte da Bahia: marcas identitárias do povo Tupinambá nesta região.

Abstract

The present monograph work consists of a study about the toponyms of the North Coast of Bahia. The legacy of the Tupinambá Indians was not restricted only to cooking, ceramics and clothing. This research aims not only to investigate the toponyms found on the North Coast of Bahia, but also to identify these toponyms, including information about each place name found on the Costa dos Coqueiros; to know the factors that contributed to the origin and significance of place names; demonstrate the lexical motivations for naming the place names. The theoretical foundation included a series of articles, theses and other study materials on the formation of Brazilian society, approaching from the evidence of the first peoples who would have inhabited the region of Bahia, passing to the contact between indigenous and Portuguese and the process of colonization of Brazil, the constitution of indigenous settlements in Bahia, the transition from villages to villages, until reaching the current configuration of the municipalities that make up the North Coast of Bahia. For the study of the toponyms, texts on the Tupi-Guarani language and the Tupinambá Indians, grammars and dictionaries of the Tupi-Guarani language were used, as well as articles and theses on the subject, being compared the different information brought by the authors.
