A Tensão “Tradicional x Moderno” no Forró a partir do Movimento “Devolva Meu São João!”

Abstract

The central theme of this study was whether the movement "Devolva Meu São João!" did it represent a movement of cultural resistance inclined with the traditional values of the northeastern identity through forró? To respond to this concern, we analyzed the perceptions of artists, researchers and public figures about the Northeastern forró tradition. In order to obtain accurate and detailed information and opinions, we used sources of articles from Northeastern newspapers corresponding to the time when the movement gained public visibility. Thus, it was found that the movement "Devolva Meu São João!" represented the resistance of traditionalist artists in losing their space in the June festivals, alleging the loss of the culture and tradition of these festivals as the main arguments for this debate.
