Memórias do front: relatos de guerra de veteranos da FEB

Abstract

This work has for objective to analyze the narratives of war of veterans of Brazilian Expeditionary Force (BEF) during the World War II. The research was carried through inside of the boarding of Verbal History, arguing the processes of formation of the diverse existing memories inside of the group of the veterans. It contributed for the analysis of the depositions the perspectives of New Military History, where the social and cultural aspects pass if to overlap in the studies on the Armed Forces and the experience of the military service. The interviews had covered the trajectory of the BEF, since its formation, passing for the training, sending to the Europe, “fire baptism”, daily in front, situations of combat, return to Brazil and demobilization, enclosing the period of the declaration of war to the nations of the Axle, in August 1942, until the end of the hostilities, in May of 1945. Questions as the aspects of the relations with the Italian civilians and the North American military, the fear and the strategies of confrontation and the perception on the enemies had prominence in the interpretations of the narratives.
