Um ouvir das vozes dos/das pescadores/as indígenas do território indígena Comexatibá: uma nota sobre as consequências materiais e simbólicas da escassez de peixes.

Abstract

The current research aimed to investigate the causes pointed out for the sca rcity of fish in the indigenous community of the Comexatibá Indigenous Territory (TI) and analyze what impacts this scarcity caused to the community. The region, where the Pataxó indigenous people live, is located in the extreme south of the state of Bahia , in Cumuruxatiba, a district in the municipality of Prado. TI Comexatibá is part of RESEX CORUMBAU, the reserve that covers the marine area from Corumbau to Cumuruxatiba. The research was intended to see scarcity from the perspective of indigenous fisherm en. To reach the objectives, site visits were carried out and semistructured interviews were carried out with seven fishermen, weaving analyzes and comparisons in light of the evidence elucidated by the literature in the area; debating the speeches, conce pts and recent scientific findings. In the interviews, it was evident that overfishing and environmental degradation were perceived as the main causes of fish shortages. Among the results, the discussion promoted in the text allowed us to identify some rea sons and consequences for scarcity: (1) competition with other fishermen, in recent years, (2) competition between traditional and modern techniques, which generate greater environmental impact, (3) difficulty in associating and registering with fishing ag encies, and (4) the threat to the artisanal culture of this people, which is in decline.
