Homem trabalhador, pacato e de bom procedimento: masculinidades populares, violência e cotidiano em Feira de Santana (1960-1970)

Abstract

Esta dissertação versa sobre as experiências de masculinidades de homens dos segmentos populares de Feira de Santana, interior da Bahia, nos anos de 1960 e 1970. Trata-se, pois, de questionar se haveria uma única masculinidade hegemônica e homogênea ou, em vez disso, distintas experiências e significados de masculinidades, no plural. Para tanto, recorre-se a fontes criminais e outras como memorialistas, jornais, canções, etc para compreender práticas e percepções de masculinidade tecidas por diferentes agentes sociais, com enfoque nos homens pobres. Além disso, parte-se dos estudos de gênero, masculinidades e da História social da cultura, priorizando o intercruzamento de gênero, raça, classe, ruralidade, sexualidade na análise das fontes. Ao se voltar para o cotidiano, foi possível averiguar não só as normas sociais sobre masculinidades, mas também as distintas apropriações dos ideais normativos no âmbito da sociedade de Feira de Santana.

This dissertation investigates the meanings of masculinities in the experience of men from the lower classes in Feira de Santana, in the interior of Bahia, in the 1960s. In the same way, we wondered how the use of violence and the notions of masculinities and honor are intimately interwoven, without fall not only in male vilanization, but also in different voluntarisms. In this investigation, the criminal proceedings were taken as privileged tools from which it is possible to glimpse normative ideals of human beings and as reworkings of these norms within the scope of disputes in the legal arena. For this, we resort to an analysis that sheds light especially on everyday relationships, in which norms, practices, representations and discourses are updated, manipulated and challenged by social agents. Thus, we conducted a historical analysis that combined as categories of gender, class, race, sexuality, rurality, etc., informed by feminist assumptions, studies of masculinities and the social history of culture.
