Os prenomes no Cartório de Itapuã

Abstract

Este trabalho, inserido no contexto da linguística histórica e relacionado à linha de pesquisa História da Leitura e da Escrita no Brasil, da UFBA, teve por objetivo geral analisar os prenomes registrados nos termos do Livro 01-A do Cartório de Registro Civil de Itapuã, instalado numa pequena comunidade de origem afrodescendente ao norte da cidade de Salvador, documentos do período de 1888 a 1904. No livro constam os 618 antropônimos analisados, inscritos nos termos de registros de nascimento. Estudou-se o processo histórico de constituição do léxico antroponímico da comunidade, buscando-se entender em que medida o contato da cultura portuguesa com a comunidade de Itapuã, estaria refletido na antroponímia, já que não se encontrou o registro de nomes de origem africana ou indígena. Buscou-se também: evidenciar os fatores sociolinguísticos percebidos nos registros e demonstrar que nomes foram registrados pela população da comunidade, considerando-se a etimologia e salientando-se os prenomes de maior incidência. Constatou-se que houve uma predominância de registro de nomes que remetem à tradição onomástica portuguesa, fruto da sobreposição cultural do colonizador, dando continuidade, inclusive, a práticas onomásticas verificadas desde a Idade Média na Europa e pricipalmente em Portugal.

This study, set in the context of historical linguistics and belonging to the line of research History of Reading and Writing in Brazil, Universidade Federal Bahia, aimed at analyzing the given names recorded in Livro 01-A of the Civil Registry Itapuã, installed in a small community of afro descendant located in the north of Salvador, during the period 1888- 1904. The book contains the 618 terms of birth in which are recorded the anthroponyms analyzed. Studied the historical process of formation of the lexicon anthroponymic of the community, seeking to understand in which way the contact with the Portuguese culture community Itapuã would be reflected in anthroponymic, once we did not find a record of names of African or Indian origin. It was sought as well: to point the sociolinguistic factors that were perceivedin the records and demonstrate that names were registered by the population of the community, considering the etymology and emphasizing the higher incidence of first names. It was found that there was a predominance of record names that refer to onomastic Portuguese tradition, the result of cultural overlap of the colonizer, continuing evenonomastic practices that have occurred since the middle ages in Europe and principally in Portugal .
