TRAUMA NA LITERATURA: ANTÓNIO LOBO ANTUNES E A EXPERIÊNCIA NA ESCRITA

Abstract

A presente tese de Doutoramento em Cultura e Sociedade da Universidade Federal da Bahia – UFBA, tem como objetivo investigar a representação do trauma na literatura a partir dos romances autobiográficos do escritor português António Lobo Antunes: Memória de Elefante, Os Cus de Judas e Conhecimento do Inferno, além de suas importantes selecionadas crônicas e de várias entrevistas dadas por Lobo Antunes que complementam o nosso corpus de pesquisa. Pretende-se, por meio desses romances, das crônicas e das respectivas entrevistas investigar como o trauma, “ferida” que se inscreve no corpo do sobrevivente, é responsável pela desconstrução da identidade dos personagens-protagonistas que narram o acontecimento traumático interpelado por uma memória oriunda da Guerra Colonial em Angola. A pesquisa é teórico-metodologicamente bibliográfica, amparada pela literatura de testemunho, pela teoria do trauma e representação, interpelada por uma dimensão pós-colonial, numa perspectiva dialógica e interdisciplinar, reconhece que a linguagem é o fio condutor na representação do trauma na literatura, interagindo com vários conceitos que com ele estão inseridos: a voz, o imaginário, o espaço, o tempo, a identidade, entre outros. Pretende-se a partir do diálogo entre os conceitos defendidos por diversos autores selecionados por esta pesquisa, concretizar a análise do trauma por meio dos dois gêneros literários e das entrevistas que servem como objeto de análise mencionado anteriormente, interpelados por signos traumáticos que dessubjetivam a identidade do narrador-personagem que, após a vivência com a Guerra Colonial em Angola e o seu retorno a Portugal não consegue adaptar-se e levar a vida como antes, passando por uma violenta crise de representação. Entretanto, consegue detectar que essa significativa transformação ocorrida em sua vida produz até os dias atuais, conforme entrevista dada pelo escritor a María Luisa Blanco (2002), uma angústia suicida que o persegue como algo desconfortável que adentra o seu interior como cicatriz que marca para sempre a sua vida, a sua escrita literária. Autores como Halbwachs (2006), Bergson (2010), Seligmann-Silva (2000, 2003), Seixo (2002, 2008), Foucault (1979, 2008), Freud (1976, 2011), Butler (2015, 2016), Hall (2006), entre outros, são citados nesta pesquisa para dar uma maior consistência à análise das obras literárias. Os resultados deste trabalho mostram que os romances e crônicas aqui investigados e interpelados pela relevantes entrevistas refletem o doloroso processo traumático que está por traz do texto literário, consolidado por meio de um discurso crítico e desconstrutivo produzido por um romancista que consegue destravar os “nós” que impediam com que o trauma ou a linguagem traumática pudesse emergir de seu interior e transformar-se numa rica produção literária, de rastro testemunhal, autobiográfico, histórico e memorialístico.

The present doctoral thesis on Culture and Society for the Federal University of Bahia – UFBA, sets out to investigate the representation of trauma in literature from the autobiographical novels of the Portuguese writer António Lobo Antunes: Memoria de Elefante (Elephant’s Memory), Os Cus de Judas (The Land at the End of the World) and Conhecimento do Inferno (Knowledge of Hell), as well as a selection of his most his important short stories and several interviews given by the author which complement our corpus of research. It is intended, through these novels, stories and interviews, to investigate how trauma, the "wound" that scars the body of the survivor, is responsible for the deconstruction of the identity of the protagonist characters who narrate the traumatic event, interpolated by memory stemming from the Colonial War in Angola. The research is theoretico-methodologically bibliographical, supported by the literature of testimony and the theory of trauma and representation interpolated by a postcolonial dimension, in a dialogical and interdisciplinary perspective. It recognizes that language is the guiding thread in the representation of trauma in literature, interacting with several concepts inserted into it: the voice, the imaginary, space, time and identity, among other factors. It is intended to concretize the analysis of trauma from the dialogue between concepts argued by the various authors selected for this research, through the two literary genres and the interviews that serve as the objects of the analysis previously mentioned, interpolated by the signs of trauma that desubjectivate the identity of the narrator-character who, after living through the Colonial War in Angola, cannot adapt and lead life as before on his return to Portugal, undergoing a violent crisis of representation. However, according to an interview given by the writer to María Luisa Blanco (2002), he is able to recognize in his literary writing the significant transformation that has occurred in his life, continuing to the present day, a suicidal anguish persecuting him like some irksome thing that has entered his interior, like a scar that marks his life forever,. Authors like Halbwachs (2006), Bergson (2010), Seligmann-Silva (2000, 2003), Seixo (2002, 2008), Foucault (1979, 2008), Freud (1976, 2011), Butler (2006), among others, are cited in this research to give greater consistency to the analysis of literary works. The results of this work show that the novels and stories investigated, interpolated by the relevant interviews, reflect the painful traumatic process behind the literary text, consolidated through a critical and deconstructive discourse produced by a novelist who can unravel the "knots" which prevent the trauma, or the traumatic language, from emerging from the interior, transforming itself into the rich literary production of a trajectory at once testimonial, autobiographical, historical and memorialistic.
