Reflexões sobre a (não) perenidade nos museus: a documentação e a aquisição de obras nos Salões de Arte da Bahia

Abstract

The main issue within the fallowing thesis is the museological documentation, whose object of study is based on contemporary art œuvres with ephemeral and immaterial characteristics that had been acquired in the art salons that had taken place in the Museu de Arte Moderna da Bahia (MAM-BA).The documments about the œuvres and the documentation of the museum that had been analyzed are the artists projects, the institutional catalogues, the catalogues from the fifteen art salons from Bahia and the documentation related to the three œuvres that are considered ephemeral by the museum. This research leads a discussion about the theories of Museology, the museum and the museological documentation, the processing of the documentation carried out by the institution that is being researched, the contemporary art that calls into question the role of the museum as legitimizer of the arts, and the art salons as places of introduction, acquisition and renewal of œuvres. We reflect on the museum as an institution that produces and carries out researches, and we take it as a place of memory that propagates (re)significations over the cultural heritage in tangible and intangible dimensions, and we take documentation as a way of producing knowledge. It is also part of this research the analysis of the institutional catalogues, mainly the catalogues of the fifteen art salons, which are evidence of what have been chosen and what have been excluded from the acquisition awards. They also reflect the poetic of the artists, the institutionalization and the possibilities of the documentation and the (re)construction of the œuvres, the historic within the MAM-BA, and the call into question as regards its lifetime: the (non-) perenniality of the contemporary artistic production within the museum. The research was carried out based on the theoretical reference, the documents that were analyzed on the documentation of the MAM-BA, the subjects attended on the Programa de Pós-Graduação em Museologia, the Programa de Pós-Graduação em Artes Visuais e no Programa Multidisciplinar de Pós-Graduação em Estudos Étnicos e Africanos, the orientation meetings and the contact with the Núcleo Museologia do MAM-BA. In the field research, we count on photographic records from the projects of the artists, the catalographic cards, and the documents that take/consider the œuvres as ephemeral. We also interviewed the museologists from the institution. We understand in situ the reality of the institution with its (in)adequacies and its procedural possibilities of documentation, as well as the critical and terminological opening of the contemporary art in the museum and its collection.
