Resumen : TECHNIQUE TO CORRECT SCAPHOCEPHALY: RENIER’S "H" DESCRIPTION OF THE FIRST SERIES OF CASES IN BRAZIL. Background: Craniosynostosis (CS) is the premature fusion of one or more cranial sutures leading to deformities in the cranium. The Scaphocephaly (EC) is the most common form of non- syndromic CS (40-60%), with a prevalence of approximately 1: 5000 live births. Its treatment may be conservative or surgical, depending on the degree of cranial deformity. The purpose of surgical reconstruction is the correction of the deformity, improving the appearance of the skull and preventing the progression of this deformation. Objective: To describe the first series of cases in Brazil of children with the EC corrected by the Renier’s "H" technique. Methods: A consecutive review and retrospective of child records with sagittal CS, admitted, from March 2007 to March 2013, for the neurosurgical treatment of cranial reconstruction in referral center for pediatric neurosurgery in Salvador (Bahia, Brazil), with the "H" Renier technique. Results: During the proposed period, 50 children were diagnosed with CS, and of those, 20 had EC and 13 of these children were included in the study. The children had at the time of surgery, age (months) and weight (kg) equal to 8 with medians ± 7.9 and 11.4 ± 2.5 respectively. About 92% of children needed blood transfusion. The results of surgery after the first and twelfth month follow-up were analyzed and rated as satisfactory. In the sample, there were no deaths. Conclusion: The technique provided excellent surgical outcome and therefore consider it effective in cranial reconstruction of children with EC.
