Abstract: We present a model for calculating the field ionization probabilities of an imaging gas molecule in the field ion microscope which simultaneously considers the local enhancement of the electric field and image effects of the nuclear and tunnelling elecytron charges. The results show characteristics comparable with the ones of previous treatment where each effect was separately considered, but corresponding to a narrower ionization zone width.
