Abstract:
This work aims to discuss the strategic role of the solidary economy for family farming, as an alternative to confront some challenges, such as access to technical assistance and marketing efforts. Developed in cooperative systems of all branches, cooperativism and the solidary economy became a relevant tool for family farming, promoting social inclusion by articulating economic initiatives that expands work opportunities, income distribution and food production. But for this to be strengthened, it is necessary that the country advances in guaranteeing policies that empower the segment. In Bahia, relevant public policies have been developed in this sense, starting from training, technical assistance and support for production and marketing. However, there is still a lot to be done, in order to expand or care for family farmers, and to encourage solidary economy practices.
