Abstract:
This dissertation consists of three different parts: memorial, academic article and product. Memorial is a report of musical activities carried out by the author, especially the shows and concerts performed during the writing of this work. It also presents the author’s professional history, culminating in the case study examined on this research: Letieres Leite & Orkestra Rumpilezz. The article offers first a detailed view of Letieres Leite’s project, how the orchestra was formed and the concepts used by the maestro to create it. It is followed by an analysis of the performance of the trombones section at the orchestra, especially on the section’s role at the musical piece, by Letieres Leite, “Anunciação”. It then presents a brief description of what it was like, for the author, to perform alongside and under the leadership of Letieres. Finally, it includes the musical scores used in the analysis of “Anunciação”. The final product is the third and last part of the dissertation, contains a study guide and recorded content of Afro-Bahian rhythms, to be used for daily studies with the trombone. The final portion of the study guide proposes arrangements for a trombone octet and a tuba for the piece “Anunciação” and for Dori Caymmi’s song “Porto”. The arrangement for “Porto” is based on the ijexá rhythm clave.
