Resumo:
This study addressed the topic of technical preparation activities in bands. The overall objective was to understand the results of conducting a Musical Technique Workshop-Class, based on Jagow's (2007) Instrumental Music Instruction Configuration proposal, in two woodwind sections and two brass sections of four selected bands. Utilizing an applied methodology with an explanatory research strategy, a qualitative approach was adopted, and the quasi-experimental research model was chosen for data collection. The meetings with the bands consisted of conducting a Workshop in each selected group, with recordings of the piece “Mestre Chester” made at the beginning and the end of the meeting. Subsequently, the recordings were evaluated by two expert judges with proven experience in the field, aiming to assess the technical level of the group immediately after the activities. The results indicated an increase in the overall average score of the second performance in three of the four bands (Band A: 2.75/3.06; Band B: 2.5/4.06; Band C: 1.75/3.18; Band D: 3.87/3.18). Furthermore, feedback from participant testimonials highlighted the importance of the content covered, even in aspects considered basic of musical performance, with participants emphasizing the relevance of the proposed approach, even for instrumentalists with substantial experience and participation in bands.
