Resumo:
This master's thesis deals with an analysis of the representation of the sertanejo university
songbook, aiming to investigate how their songs expressed socio-historical circumstances of
the period in which they were produced, such as the process of agricultural modernization that
started in the 20th century, the consolidation of agribusiness in the 21st century and the
commodities boom. In order to reach this goal, we discuss, in chapter one, the constitution of
the research field of Sociology of music, where our work is located. In chapter two, we discuss
the process of agricultural modernization in the 20th and 21st centuries. In chapter three, we
discussed the sertanejo genre, seeking to understand its history until the arrival of its university
variation. And in chapter four, the central part of this work, we propose a debate on the period
of the sertanejo university having as its central object the songbook and its correlation with the
socio-historical context. Thus, in this last section, there is a sociological analysis of the songs
from this period, based on the use of the method of musical decomposition.
