Vai começar o arraiá, que se apresentem as quadrilhas!: grupos de competição do município de Simões Filho-Bahia – Aspectos Históricos

Abstract

This master's thesis is entitled Vai Começar o Arraiá Que se Apresentem as Quadrilhas!: Grupos de Competição do Município de Simões Filho-Bahia - Aspectos históricos. This work analyzes the history and significance of the traditional June quadrille dance groups in the municipality of Simões Filho. The specific objectives of this research are to understand the evolution and the integration of these groups into formal events such as festivals and quadrille dance championships. To achieve these goals, a qualitative, exploratory, descriptive, and documentary approach was employed. Initially, a literature review was conducted, followed by interviews. Additionally, articles from widely circulated newspapers in Bahia were consulted and considered, and visits to archives and research on websites were carried out. The data analysis, utilizing content analysis techniques, revealed that during the 1980s and 1990s, Simões Filho had at least 17 quadrille dance groups in both adult and children's categories. The research also highlighted the evolution of these groups, starting with spontaneous formations in the streets and squares of neighborhoods, created by community members. Subsequently, they transitioned to school environments, eventually integrating into formal quadrille dance championships and festivals that took place during that period. After this phase, the groups gradually lost motivation and ceased their performances.
