Abstract

This dissertation addresses issues related to the conventions of gender and feminism in Hip Hop from the perspective of young activists in Salvador. It seeks to analyze the possibility of a feminist hip hop in the city, in order to understand feminism in its plurality as a social movement. In order to achieve that, the research focus on feminist discourse and engagement of women who are involved in the militancy as main interlocutors on this research. Particular attention was paid and articulation of social markers of gender, sexuality and race the political activity which was investigate. These issues were explored through a qualitative research method, and the ethonographic approach that utilized semistructured interviews with hip hop movement women. Moreover, the research was grounded on a participant observation methodology through an involvement with the studied group, grounded on gender and feminist studies interdisciplinary approach.
