Análise espacial do crescimento do emprego dos setores de confecções e couro-calçadista nos municípios da região Nordeste entre 2002 e 2012

Abstract

The objective of the present study is to test, from the Marshallian externalities, the horizontal employment clustering of the micro, small and medium-sized enterprises regarding the garment and leather-footwear sectors in the municipalities of the Northeast Brazilian Region between 2002 and 2012. For this, we used the spatial model proposed by Fingleton, Igliori and Moore (2005), which tests explanatory variables of sector employment growth in micro, small and medium enterprises. In this model, we control the supply and demand estimative by isolating the effect of the initial intensity of the cluster, as well as the possible stage of congestion effects. The results suggest that there is a horizontal clustering in the clothing sector. In leather and footwear, on the other hand, there seems to be no such clustering.
