| dc.description.abstract | The 2008 Financial crisis represented a turning point in macroeconomic theory. The clear limitations of monetary policy as a countercyclical tool brought to the forefront the resurgence of discretionary fiscal policy. This includes not only the resurgence of this policy, but also the debate regarding its effectiveness and its role in economic theory. This monograph aims to investigate the role of fiscal policy in modern macroeconomic theory and to understand why this policy was neglected in the dominant theoretical framework prior to the Financial Crisis. To this end, the monograph reviews the macroeconomic literature from the publication of the General Theory to the debate that occurred during the crisis. Finally, it conjectures whether the Financial Crisis truly represents a turning point regarding the role of fiscal policy. | pt_BR |

| dc.description.resumo | A Crise financeira de 2008 representou um ponto de inflexão na teoria macroeconômica. A clara limitação da política monetária como ferramenta contracíclica trouxe à tona o ressurgimento da política fiscal discricionária. Não apenas do ressurgimento dessa política, mas também o debate quanto a sua eficácia e o seu papel na teoria econômica. A presente monografia tem como objetivo investigar o papel da política fiscal na teoria macroeconômica moderna e entender o que houve para que tal política fosse negligenciada no arcabouço teórico dominante pré Crise Financeira. Com este objetivo, a monografia segue com uma revisão da literatura macroeconômica desde a publicação da Teoria Geral até o debate ocorrido durante a crise. Por fim, conjectura-se se a Crise Financeira realmente representa um ponto de virada quanto ao papel da política fiscal. | pt_BR |
