Distorções e contradições da estrutura produtiva do estado de Alagoas e seu impacto econômico e social a partir do método estrutural-diferencial

Abstract

This thesis investigates the structural limitations of Alagoas' industrial sector and its impacts on economic growth and formal employment. Using the structural-differential model (ShiftShare) and a sectoral ranking based on indicators of economic complexity (ICE) and technological intensity (OECD), the research analyzes the performance of industrial activities across the state's three mesoregions (Leste, Agreste, and Sertão) from 2010 to 2019. The results reveal a strong industrial concentration in the Leste region, which shows signs of declining competitiveness; the Agreste region stands out in terms of regional competitiveness; and the Sertão remains economically stagnant. Sectoral analysis shows that more sophisticated industries—such as pharmaceuticals and chemicals—still have marginal participation in employment, while less complex and technologically lagging sectors predominate. Based on these findings, the study proposes strengthening strategic sectors and promoting industrial decentralization as key strategies for achieving more balanced and sustainable regional development.
