Cantilenas afirmativas: a poética da repetição de Clarice Lispector

Abstract

This thesis aims to analyze the ways how the repetition are set in the fictional work of Clarice Lispector. It is elected as the main corpus for analysis, the novels Perto do coração selvagem (1943), A paixão segundo G.H. (1964), and Agua viva (1973). The research isolates in each novel analyzed the repetition’s perspectives (symbolic or automaton, and real or tiquê). In the inaugural novel analysis, the symbolic perspective of repetition is emphasized, and the desire is prioritized as a phenomenon of this unconscious and universal mechanism. Then, in order to analyze the novel written in 1964, both perspectives are worked, and it is appointed the instinct and the compulsion to repeat as repeating elements. Finally, in novel Água viva, both aspects of repetition are studied singly, and it is analyzed its modes of action in literary writing, in the artistic creation in itself. In this work, the literary material is articulated with some assumptions that come from the psychoanalytic theory and from the philosophy. The thesis is structured by an interdisciplinary research, of bibliographic feature. Taking the repetition element, the conclusions point to the presence of an affirmative gesture performed by the analyzed characters. Attached to this gesture, there is a dimension of enjoyment that combines pain and suffering, which impels the heroines to look for another experience, in order to search for new beginnings. These characters are fated to repeat. This way, they do not consider the life in its eternal beginning as suffering, but, like Sisyphus rolling stone insistently, they assume the tragic dimension of existence and conduct their trajectory in a happy and joyful acceptance.
