Eixo produtivo BR-324: uma nova abordagem regional para além das regiões metropolitanas de Salvador e Feira de Santana

Abstract

This work presented a theoretical proposal for a new conception of region for the municipalities that make up what was called, for the purposes of this work, Eixo Produtivo BR324 (EPBR 324), a space in the territory of Bahia, composed of eighteen municipalities located between Salvador and Feira de Santana. The proposal focused,on establishing theoretical elements capable of offering the grouping of municipalities the status of region. Revisiting the economic formation of the region and quantifying the values added by each of the selected municipalities to the State's GDP served to reinforce the proposed notion of region; demographic aspects were also presented. Elements referring to the spatial concentration of economic production were presented, in addition to other indicators that demonstrated distinctive aspects regarding the economic structures of this fraction of the territory of Bahia. The most relevant aspects observed in the study were summarized in the conclusion section.
