Abstract

The Church of Nossa Senhora da Graça was built in the early days by the Tupinambá Indian Tupinambá “Paraguassú”, later Dona Catharina Álvares, is the combination of the material and immaterial symbolism of the construction of the history of the Brazilian people written with the help of the elements of faith and belonging. Markedly linked to the symbolism of its precursor, the temple remains solid on the site that inherited its name, Graça. Having this Catholic temple has collaborated with Brazilian history, it bears the marks of the passage of time. passage of time, going through stylistic, decorative and ornamental changes. The main character in this plot, who establishes the link between human history, and the spiritual world represented by the image of Our Lady of Grace, is Dona Catharina Álvares.
