Mulheres silenciadas: um retrato da condição da mulher brasileira do século XIX nos romances de Délia (Maria Benedita Câmara Bormann)

Abstract

This work consists of the analysis of the book Aurélia (1883), by the nineteenth-century writer Maria Benedita Câmara Bormann (Délia). The objective of the work is to present the historical context in which the writer is inserted, her life story and literary trajectory in order to analyze the construction of her female characters. Authors who studied and investigated female authorship in the 19th century are used as theoretical repertoire, discussing the role of women defined in modernity, the rise of women to writing and the strategies they used in their texts to be read and accepted, to highlight the characteristics of Délia’s writing. Considering that literature written by women in the 19th century suffered an erasure, this research and analysis focused on emphasizing the importance of Délia's writing to better understand the condition of brazilian women in the 19th century and the erasure of this writer from Brazilian Literary History.
