Expressões leigas da fé católica: irmandades religiosas na freguesia de Santana em Salvador (1876-1926)

Abstract

As irmandades religiosas, como instituições presentes na vida social da maior parte dos indivíduos da sociedade brasileira até o século XIX, tiveram relevância fundamental para a compreensão de parte da história social do país. A dissertação teve por principal objetivo estudar parte da estrutura social e da vida religiosa na cidade de Salvador por intermédio das irmandades da freguesia de Santana entre os anos de 1876 e 1926, analisando de que modo operaram as diferentes transformações sociais do final do século XIX e início do século XX. Além disso, pretendeu-se perceber os traços de sociabilidades dentro dessas instituições, os processos de permanências e rupturas que as envolveram e analisar os principais vínculos associativos de seus membros. Para tal feito, foram analisadas diferentes fontes como artigos de jornais e periódicos, compromissos, relatórios, correspondências entre a arquidiocese e estas associações, diferentes documentos contábeis, além da legislação vigente tanto no final do Brasil-Império quanto na República.

The religious brotherhood, as institutions that were linked to social life of the most part of the individuals of the Brazilian society until the XIX century, had a fundamental relevance to understand part of the social history of Brazil. This dissertation have as an objective the study of a significant part of the social structure imbricated into the religious lay life in the city of Salvador, through the brotherhoods of the Santana’s district between the years of 1876 and 1926, analyzing how the social changes that happened in the end of the XIX century and begin of XX century impacted these institutions. Besides that, it is intend to perceive the traits of sociability into these associations, and the process of permanence and ruptures that surrounds them and analyze the most important associative links of its members. For this purpose, were analyzed deafferents historical sources such as newspapers and periodicals, “compromissos”, reports, letters issued by the archdiocese for those associations, accounting documents and the current legislation during the period studied.
