PATRIMONIO FORTIFICADO: DE LA TRADICIÓN A LA RESTAURACIÓN DEL FUERTE DE SAN FERNANDO DE BOCACHICA – CARTAGENA, COLOMBIA

Abstract

Esta propuesta de intervención del Fuerte San Fernando de Bocachica pretende llevarse a cabo mediante una clara y precisa recuperación funcional aunque con una mínima pero importante intervención arquitectónica y estructural. Desde el punto de vista funcional, la adecuación a la actividad hotelera se concibe gracias a la compartimentación ya existente en el edificio, lo cual permite contar con salones de dimensiones y características espaciales más o menos iguales que son aprovechados como habitaciones, con la incorporación necesaria de unidades sanitarias. Por su parte, los espacios de geometría irregular o atípica se emplean aquí para actividades singulares tales como áreas administrativas o de servicio, sin afectar en ningún caso sus características espaciales y de iluminación y ventilación. Adicionalmente, la terraza se recupera como espacio desde el cual se obtiene la máxima visibilidad del entorno. La importante plaza de armas, área central y protagónica del edificio mantiene su jerarquía para los dos niveles del Fuerte. Los sistemas de circulación –tanto internos como externos al edificio– se aprovechan y mantienen sin mayores alteraciones. Teniendo en cuenta que el edificio se encuentra en un buen estado de conservación aunque adolece de una serie de patologías cuya causa se encuentra en el natural deterioro y degradación de algunos de suselementos constructivos, la propuesta está orientada a rehabilitar lo que está dañado (especialmente la terraza y el cuarto de las letrinas) y de manera especial a detener y proteger el edificio de las acciones naturales y humanas que han contribuido a ese daño. Se destaca así la agresión causada por la humedad acumulada producto del ambiente y las lluvias sobre los elementos superficiales (muros, terraza de cubierta, acabados), a lo que se suma la fuerza del oleaje en las bases de las cortinas.

This proposal of intervention of Fort San Fernando de Bocachica aims to be carried out through a clear and precise functional recovery although with a minimal but important architectural and structural intervention. From the functional point of view, the adaptation to the hotel activity is conceived thanks to the existing compartmentalization in the building, which allows to have rooms of dimensions and spatial characteristics more or less equal that are used as rooms, with the necessary incorporation of sanitary units. On the other hand, spaces of irregular or atypical geometry are used here for singular activities such as administrative or service areas, without affecting in any case their spatial characteristics and lighting and ventilation. Additionally, the terrace is recovered as a space from which maximum visibility of the environment is obtained. The important square of arms, central and protagónica area of ​​the building maintains its hierarchy for the two levels of the Fort. The circulation systems -both internal and external to the building- are used and maintained without major alterations. Taking into account that the building is in a good state of conservation although it suffers from a series of pathologies whose cause is in the natural deterioration and degradation of some of its constructive elements, the proposal is aimed at rehabilitating what is damaged (especially the terrace and the room of the latrines) and in a special way to stop and protect the building from the natural and human actions that have contributed to that damage. It highlights the aggression caused by the accumulated humidity product of the environment and the rains on the surface elements (walls, roof terrace, finishes), to which the force of the waves in the bases of the curtains is added.
