Cartografias culturais baianas: identidade, memória e gênero nos romances de Herberto Sales

Abstract

Este estudo é o resultado de uma pesquisa que possui em seu esteio os romances de Herberto Sales. O ponto de convergência considerado é a cartografia cultural baiana. A pesquisa foi realizada com o propósito de analisar as representações culturais em três romances do escritor baiano: Os Pareceres do tempo (1984), Cascalho (1944) e A prostituta (1996). Esperamos apresentar uma cartografia de representações da cultura baiana nos três romances, a evidenciar discursos identitários nas obras, na interface dos aspectos discursivos com as temáticas histórica e de gênero. O estudo identificou uma consonância do plano literário com o social, sem, é claro, considerar a literatura meramente como reflexo da sociedade e da situação histórica. O ponto de contato se daria no aspecto em que o discurso acerca das representações da cartografia cultural baiana nos romances herbertianos, como narrativa que é dentro do gênero romanesco, assume importância capital, fazendo do cronista um sujeito histórico, um narrador da história, segundo Walter Benjamin. Identifica-se com a cidade e nela se abriga, construindo, com sua obra, um mapa literário-geográfico da Bahia – uma cartografia literária, metáfora e tecido da sua existência. Na construção da tese, utiliza-se como referencial teórico-metodológico, a Literatura em diálogo com a História, a partir desses e de outros teóricos, os da linha investigativa proposta, essencialmente, chega-se à conclusão de uma forte relação com a Bahia do autor, numa relação concreta de amor ao lugar, liga-se a Cidade da Bahia e às Lavras Diamantinas. Na esteira de textos teóricos de MOURA (2011), VILMA (2008), ARAUJO (2008), CHARTIER (1991), BENJAMIN (1980; 2014), RISÉRIO (1993;1995;2004), et alli. Dessa forma, tal como sua obra, Herberto Sales opera na construção de seu lugar no mundo e, ao mesmo tempo, contribui para a identidade cultural, social, histórica e política da Bahia.

This study is the result of a research that has in its mainstay the novels of Herberto Sales. The point of convergence considered is the Bahian cultural cartography. The research was carried out with the purpose of analyzing the cultural representations in three novels of the Bahian writer: The Opinions of the time (1984), Gravel (1944) and The prostitute (1996). We hope to present a cartography of representations of the Bahian culture in the three novels, to highlight identity discourses in the works, in the interface of the discursive aspects with the historical and gender themes. The study identified a consonance of the literary plan with the social one, without, of course, considering literature merely as a reflection of society and the historical situation. The point of contact would be in the aspect in which the discourse about the representations of the Bahian cultural cartography in the herbertian roman, as narrative that is within the romanesque genre, importance, making the chronicler a historical subject, a narrator of the story, according to Walter Benjamin. It identifies itself with the city and is home to it, building, with its work, a literary-geographical map of Bahia - a literary cartography, metaphor and fabric of its existence. In the construction of the thesis, it is used as a theoretical-methodological reference, Literature in dialogue with History, from these and other theorists, those of the proposed research line, essentially, comes to the conclusion of a strong relationship with Bahia of the author, in a concrete relation of love to the place, connects to the City of Bahia and the Lavras Diamantinas. Thus, like her work, Herberto Sales works to build his place in the world and, at the same time, contributes to the cultural, social, historical and political identity of Bahia.
