Elementos modalizadores como estratégia de negociação em textos opinativos produzidos por alunos de ensino médio

Abstract

Esta tese investiga o uso de estratégias de modalização linguística, considerando o papel dos modalizadores no processo de negociação demarcada pelo relacionamento que o produtor estabelece com o conteúdo do texto e com o interlocutor. A negociação, conforme é aqui entendida, diz respeito à forma como o produtor relaciona recursos linguísticos, manipulando-os para agir sobre o interlocutor, orientando a produção de sentido(s) a partir da posição que apresenta no texto sobre o tema abordado. Tomam-se para análise expedientes linguísticos dos eixos epistêmico e deôntico ambientados em parágrafos de textos opinativos produzidos por alunos do 3º ano do Ensino Médio de uma escola pública de Cascavel/PR. Considerando a ideia de que, na produção do texto, a modalização retrata pontos de vista e sinaliza o tipo de interlocução pretendida, parte-se da hipótese de que recursos modalizadores atualizados retratam tentativas do produtor de orientar a leitura conforme os intentos envolvidos na produção do texto opinativo, tendo em conta o papel ativo do interlocutor. A pesquisa, de cunho preponderantemente qualitativo, é orientada por uma análise descritivo-interpretativa, tendo sido adotada, como procedimento metodológico, a análise textual qualitativa. Observou-se que os alunos recorrem a estratégias diversas de relacionamento face ao próprio texto e ao interlocutor, as quais resultam em dois movimentos de negociação: negociação enfática e negociação atenuada, que envolvem, respectivamente, os atos ilocutórios de asserção forte e de asserção fraca. No primeiro caso, os elementos modalizadores revelam alto engajamento do produtor com o texto e a tentativa de imposição de determinada leitura ao interlocutor, resultando em uma negociação tensa; no segundo caso, revelam baixo grau de engajamento do produtor em relação ao texto e apresentam pontos de vista sem impor uma interpretação sobre o tema em debate, resultando em uma negociação menos tensa do que no primeiro caso. Embora o foco central deste trabalho sejam os modalizadores, observou-se também o papel do cotexto no desenvolvimento do processo de negociação, considerando a necessidade de analisar tais elementos em seu cotexto e contexto enunciativo. No interior do parágrafo, observou-se um continuum que vai da negociação enfática à negociação atenuada, o qual revela as tentativas do aluno de lidar com possibilidades múltiplas de uso da língua para lograr êxito em seu projeto de dizer. Espera-se que este trabalho traga contribuições para a área da Linguística e, ainda, forneça subsídios teóricos para a abordagem da modalização no ensino da produção de texto opinativo.

This thesis investigates the use of strategies of modalization, considering the role of modal operators in the negotiation process established by the relationship of the text producer with both the text content and the interlocutor. Negotiation, as it is understood here, refers to how the producer handles linguistic resources in order to act upon the addressee, guiding the production of meaning(s) on the basis of the position taken in the text regarding the topic discussed. The analysis focuses on linguistic resources from the epistemic and deontic axis in paragraphs of opinion pieces written by students of the 3rd year of high school from a public school in Cascavel (Paraná, Brazil). Considering the idea that, in the process of writing an opinion piece, modality exposes points of view and signals the type of interlocution intended, the assumption taken here is that modal operators show the producer’s attempts of guiding the reading according to the intentions involved in writing an opinion piece, keeping in mind the active role of the interlocutor. This study is predominantly qualitative, guided by a descriptive and interpretative analysis, and adopts the method of qualitative text analysis. It was observed that the students use different strategies to mark their relationship with their own text and their interlocutor, resulting in two negotiation movements: emphatic negotiation and attenuated negotiation, which involves illocutionary acts of, respectively, strong and weak assertion. In the first case, the modal operators reveal the producer’s high engagement with the text and an intention to act imposingly upon the addressee, resulting in a tense negotiation; in the second case, they reveal the producer’s low engagement with the text and his/her intent to present a point of view without imposing his/her interpretation of the topic under discussion, resulting in a negotiation less tense than in the first case. Although the main focus of this study is the modal operators, the role of the co-text in the development of the negotiation process is also taken into account, due to the need of analyzing the modal operators in their co-text and enunciative context. Inside the paragraph, it was observed a continuum from the emphatic to the attenuated negotiation which reveals the student’s attempts to handle multiple possibilities of language use to achieve success in his/her project of saying. It is expected that this study will contribute to the field of Linguistics and provide theoretical support for the approach of linguistic modality in the teaching of production of opinion texts.
