A ENCENABILIDADE DO TEATRO QUINHENTISTA PORTUGUÊS NO SÉCULO XXI: DIÁLOGOS ENTRE DOIS TEMPOS

Abstract

O Portugal quinhentista foi o espaço de representação de mais de uma centena de peças teatrais, das quais é possível depreender uma rica fonte de produção teatral, não só pelas influências e correspondências criativas existentes entre os autores quinhentistas, mas também pelo profícuo diálogo que a prática teatral daquele tempo estabelece com tendências artísticas mais recentes. Antônio José Saraiva, mais de vinte anos depois de ter declarado que o teatro medieval teria findado com Gil Vicente (1942), repensa seu duro veredito quando vê encenado um texto de Brecht e reconhece uma série de semelhanças estruturais entre a dramaturgia vicentina e a brechtiana (1965). A partir de reflexões críticas e de exercícios comparativos pontuais entre textos dramatúrgicos, este trabalho pretende destacar algumas características coincidentes entre o acervo teatral daquele tempo e outras tradições que marcaram a cronologia das artes cênicas. Além disso, com o intento de promover uma aproximação mais efetiva do teatro português de 1500 aos tempos atuais, estabelecemos o conceito de encenabilidade. Isto é, a partir da verificação dos vestígios cênicos presentes nos versos escritos no português clássico, quando expostos à criação e à audiência dos indivíduos do século XXI, este trabalho relata e analisa criticamente a experiência de encenação do Auto dos Escrivães do Pelourinho, texto quinhentista português anônimo.

The sixteenth-century Portugal was the space of representation for more than a hundred plays, of which it is possible to infer a plentiful source of theatrical production, not only by the existing creative influences and correspondences between the sixteenth century authors, but also by the rich dialogue that the theatrical practice of that time establishes with latest artistic trends. Antonio José Saraiva, twenty years after having declared that the medieval theater died with Gil Vicente (1942), rethinks his hard verdict when sees staged a text written by Brecht, and recognizes a lot of structural similarities between Vincentian and Brechtian (1965) dramaturgy. From critical reflections and comparative exercises between specific dramaturgical texts, this paper aims to highlight some matching characteristics between the dramaturgical collection of that time and other traditions that marked the chronology of the performing arts. Moreover, with the intent of promote a more effective approach of Portuguese theater from 1500 to present; we established the concept of “playability”. That is, from the analysis of scenic traces present in verses written in classic Portuguese when exposed to creation and the audience of person from twenty-first century, this paper describes and critically analyzes the staging experience of “Auto dos Escrivães do Pelourinho”, play of anonymous authorship, written in the sixteenth century.
