Uma história do Conservatório de Música da Bahia (1897-1917): Seu processo fundacional, funcionamento e impacto social

Abstract

Esta pesquisa estudou o processo fundacional, o funcionamento e o impacto social do Conservatório de Música da Bahia. Para tanto foi discutido o processo de institucionalização do ensino de música no Brasil iniciado pela atuação dos jesuítas no século XVI quando se encontrava em âmbito religioso. Assim, se observou a criação da Cadeira de Música em 1818 na Bahia, por D. João VI, iniciando o processo de institucionalização do ensino de música na Bahia. Foram identificadas as instituições que abrigaram o ensino de música na Bahia, no século XIX e início do século XX. A partir da realização da pesquisa documental foi possível encontrar um conjunto de fontes primárias, até então ignoradas na literatura relativa ao Conservatório, o qual permitiu o confronto com as informações fornecidas pelos autores que trataram sobre o tema desta pesquisa. Entre os principais resultados obtidos, destacamos a localização da documentação relativa à Aula de Música da Academia de Belas Artes da Bahia, ao Curso Anexo de Música da Escola de Belas Artes da Bahia, bem como ao Conservatório de Música da Bahia. Assim, foi possível entender o processo que levou à fundação do Conservatório; a estrutura pedagógica utilizada; quais cursos foram implantados; identificar alunos concluintes do curso de piano; além de discutir o impacto social do Conservatório. A discussão destas questões possibilitou entender aspectos até hoje pouco conhecidos do ensino de música na Bahia ao início do século XX.

This research studied the foundational process, the functioning and the social impact of the Conservatório de Música da Bahia. To that end, we discussed the process of institutionalizing the teaching of music in Brazil initiated by the action of the Jesuits in the sixteenth century when it was in the religious sphere. The creation of the Chair of Music in 1818 in Bahia by D. João VI, starting the process of institutionalizing the teaching of music in Bahia. We found institutions that housed the teaching of music in Bahia in the nineteenth century and early of twentieth century. From the completion of documentary research was possible to find a set of documents still unpublished in the literature concerning the Conservatory, which provided the confront with information provided by authors who have addressed the topic of this research. On such sources can be cited documentation relating to Aula de Música at the Academy of Fine Arts of Bahia, the Curso Anexo de Música at the School of Fine Arts of Bahia, and the Conservatório de Música da Bahia. Although we have not had access to all documents relating to the aforementioned institutional phases, documentary volume found in this study led to understand the process that led to the founding of the CMB, and give a vision of the pedagogical aspects of their structure, like the courses that have been deployed, to survey graduating in piano, and discuss the social impact achieved by pedagogical and musical practice developed by the Conservatório de Música da Bahia. The discussion of these and other possible issues to understand yet unknown aspects about teaching music in Bahia in the last decades of the nineteenth and early twentieth century.
