Casais inter-raciais e suas representações acerca de raça

Abstract

Considered by some people as reinforcement to the argument of existent equality among blacks and white in Brazil, the interracial marriage represent only 20% of the total of marriages, what denounces the existence of an idealização of the racial relationships in this society. The investigation about the representations concerning race allows to perceive that forms they manifest the tensions involved in the construction of representations and, simultaneously, to understand the contradictions of a society that chose the “mestiçagem” as identity’s mark and that has in the race one of the most important elements to segregation. When identifying the representations of interracial couples (white/black) we perceive as they operate with the race concept, at the same time in that can perceive the influence of class and gender in these representations. This dissertation intends to investigate couples racialy heterogeneous of middle class, residents in Salvador (Bahia/Brasil), whose wives and husbands are white and black, in way the: 1) to identify the representations of couples of heterogeneous racialmente concerning “race"; 2) to understand as gender and class pronounces in that process and, starting from that, 3) to perceive these representations cause or no the affirmation of racial identity. More specifically, it intends: (a) to understand as the racism is considered by interracial couples of middle class; (b) to understand to what extent the racism is configured as a problem for this type couple; (c) to identify if they exist and which are the confront strategies to the racism adopted by the couple (the children's socialization, relationship with the family etc.) as well as (d) to perceive that forms the conflicts of the wives and husbands' racial identification (in family, with the friends, relatives) assume.
