Uma expedição e sua rede: em busca de doença de chagas na Bahia (1909-1915)

Abstract

Em 10 janeiro de 1912 foi publicado no Bulletim de la Société de Pathologie Exotique (Boletim da Sociedade de Patologia Exótica) um artigo científico elaborado pelos doutores Emile Brumpt e Pirajá da Silva relatando a primeira expedição feita, na Bahia, em busca da existência do Schizotrypanum Cruzi. No relato dos pesquisadores a existência do Schizotrypanum Cruzi na Bahia foi constatada por meio de diversos testes laboratoriais e experimentos2. Ao analisarmos este relato da expedição percebemos que, mesmo com poucos recursos tecnológicos, havia uma grande interação e a formação de uma rede sociotécnica da qual a Bahia teve grande participação, com os médicos e pesquisadores saídos da Faculdade de Medicina da Bahia. No entanto, entendendo que o fazer ciência envolve não somente ação humana, partimos de um ponto em comum a todos os “actantes”3 envolvidos nesta rede que começaremos a construir, partimos de um componente não-humano, mas capaz de revolucionar a área médica e, principalmente no que tangia a medicina tropical da época o ponto de partida é a Parasitologia. Assim, através da Parasitologia em algumas instituições de pesquisa formou-se uma rede de pesquisadores que culminou na primeira expedição em busca de Doença de Chagas na Bahia. O intuito do presente trabalho é traçar a rede de atores, conhecer seus participantes e compreender o modo de circulação de ideias da época através das parcerias em publicações e estudos. Após traçar a rede, analisar a expedição em busca de Doença de Chagas na Bahia e identificar suas contribuições.

ABSTRACT On 10 January 1912 was published in the Bulletin de la Société de Pathologie Exotique (Bulletin of the Society of exotic Pathology) a scientific article done by doctors E. Brumpt and Garissa da Silva recounting the first expedition made in Bahia, in search of the existence of the SCHIZOTRYPANUM CRUZI. In the case of two researchers the existence of SCHIZOTRYPANUM CRUZI, in Bahia was verified by means of various laboratory tests and experiments. When we look at this report of dispatch realized that, even with few technological resources, had a great interaction and the formation of a scientific field which the Bahia had great participation, with doctors and researchers have emerged from the Faculdade de Medicina da Bahia.4 However, it being understood that doing science involves not only human action, we start from a point in common to all 'actantes"5 involved in this network that will begin to build, partimos a component not-human, but capable of revolutionizing the medical area, and especially in tropical medicine that played at the time the point of departure is the Parasitology. Thus, through the Parasitology in some research institutions formed a network of researchers that culminated in the first expedition in search of Chagas disease in Bahia. The aim of this study is to outline the network of actors, knowing their participants and understand the mode of movement of ideas of time through partnerships in publications and studies. After tracing the network, analyze the expedition in search of Chagas disease in Bahia and identify their contributions.
