Música e dança afro-atlânticas: (ca)lundus, batuques e sambas - permanências e atualizações

Abstract

A Pesquisa se debruça sobre elementos históricos, artísticos, religiosos, sociais, políticos, comportamentais relacionados a músicas e danças afro-atlânticas, no período colonial e imperial (até dec. 1870). Calundus, festas de irmandades e outras folganças de ruas, largos, terreiros e bordéis marcaram a paisagem cultural da época. Análise dos calundus coloniais como organizações catalisadoras, fomentadoras e difusoras de músicas e danças, inclusive, para além do universo africano e afro-brasileiro. Todo o período escravista foi marcado por enormes tensões, sobretudo depois das revoluções francesas e do Haiti, ampliando o clima revolucionário nas Américas e no mundo. Deste contexto são inventariadas relações entre festas e revoltas, no mesmo período em que se constata que lundus, chulas e sambas afirmaram-se como formas musicais e coreográficas de largas camadas da sociedade. Depois do panorama geral, apresenta-se um estudo do caso do “samba de protesto”, o samba muito mais forte de Juazeiro da Bahia, realizado em 1873.

The Research focuses on historical, artistic, religious, social, political, behavioral elements related to Afro-Atlantic music and dances, in the colonial and imperial period (until December 1870). Calundus, fraternity parties and other street parties, squares, terreiros and brothels marked the cultural landscape of the time. Analysis of colonial calundus as catalytic organizations, promoters and disseminators of music and dance, including, beyond the African and Afro-Brazilian universe. The entire slave period was marked by enormous tensions, especially after the French and Haitian revolutions, expanding the revolutionary climate in the Americas and the world. In this context, relations between parties and revolts are inventoried, in the same period in which it is verified that lundus, chulas and sambas affirmed themselves as musical and choreographic forms of broad layers of society.
