Abstract: The state of Bahia, has one of the largest ports complexes in Brazil, formed bypublic Ports, terminals for private use, among which one specialized in container with a capacity of around 530 thousand TEUs per year. In turn, the Italian the container terminal of the port of Genoa has similar capacity but has presented average productivities above. The present work evaluates their differences and similarities between these ports, as in the engineering context, environmental sustainability and to some topics of the port regulatory framework, which can influence on the productivity.Based on ship arrival and service rates and their probability distributions, the queuing model, indicates the time and average number of ships in process, the port occupation rate and being with whichthe environmental impact of these ports can also be assessed
