Projeto de intervenção nos palacetes ecléticos da rua Chile – Nº 6 E Nº 8 – Salvador – Bahia

Abstract

Located on Rua Chile in Salvador, Bahia, the Mansions at numbers 6 and 8 represent remnants of an eclectic architectural ensemble that marked the modernization period of this street, promoted by J.J. Seabra in the early decades of the 20th century. The nucleus, which remained the city center until the first half of the last century, underwent urban transformation processes throughout the 20th and 21st centuries. These changes contributed to significant transformations and losses in the area's urban fabric, and more specifically, in the architectural characteristics of the ensemble. This work proposes the intervention in the mansions at numbers 6 and 8, based on the theoretical foundation developed through studies on the modernization of Rua Chile in the 20th century, as well as the urban transformations the street underwent. The buildings still present values and attributes, in addition to the marks and mutilations of time. The proposed intervention project aimed to highlight the architectural moment and the new values introduced by the bourgeois society of the early 20th century, thus recovering a significant section of the urban landscape of Rua Chile. It also aimed to emphasize the spaces of fluidity and permeability characteristic of the buildings' new functions and update them for contemporary commercial and service uses.
