Resumo:
This article aims to develop a stylized characterization of the transformations of contemporary capitalism from the 1990s to the first decade of the 21st century, seeking to identify the (economic and political) elements that most impacted the trajectories of these last two decades, such as the rise of US power in the 1990s, the 2008 international crisis, and the rise of China in the 2000s. Furthermore, it seeks to show how the changes of the 2000s allowed some Latin American countries to adopt effective demand-side policies – of the “developmentalist” type – to a greater or lesser degree depending on their internal political conditions and their economic connections with China.
