Resumo:
This work analyzes the complex interaction between racism, identity construction, and the media in the field of football and beyond. It is the first result of an exploratory research project whose objective is to understand cultural and social perceptions within the sports context, based on an investigation into how racism is treated in sports media. The monograph focuses on the analysis of the case of the player Vinícius Júnior and, from it, raises a history of similar situations, illustrating how issues of identity, gender, race, and class influence and are shaped by media representations in contemporary society. The research also addresses the perpetuation of racial stereotypes, media coverage of the occurrence of discrimination, and the responses of sports institutions based on references such as Stuart Hall (2016), Kabengele Munanga (2015), Dennis de Oliveira (2021), and Nilma Lino Gomes (2017).
